 Now that the Saudi Government started paying the Saudi Claimants from Saudi Oger ex-employees it seems that the long overdue payment of unpaid salaries for OFW's are near and yet so far. Those claimants who are still in Saudi Arabia managed to get their cash from Alinma Bank but those who are in the Philippines received their cheque through DHL but the cheque is in Saudi Riyals and the local banks are not accepting it. Some managed to deposit the cheque in the Landbank of the Philippines but the cheque was returned to them. 

There are still more ex-employees from Saudi Oger who are yet to receive their pay cheques and more claimants from other companies like MMG, Arabtec, J&P etc. are yet to receive any information from the Department of Migrant Workers if they will get paid as promised by Saudi Government that nine construction companies that went on bankruptcy will get paid.

The only time DMW officials will give information is when the spokesperson of claimants from different companies will chase them to hold a meeting. The supposed to be focal person, USec Olalia never gave any update at least on the DMW page about the Status of the Claims. Earlier they have mentioned that the payment would be Government to Government but it never happened and they were not aware that the Ministry of Finance already started processing the payment.

The OFWs who were considered "bagong bayani" deserved better service from better officials who were compassionate enough to deal with the issues of OFWs.

The Ministry of Justice has released the approved list of the first group.It initially contains the names of 12,578 people sorted by their claim number.

 According to one post from the group member, all 1st batch claimants of SOL, email notifications from saudi oger bankruptcy have already been forwarded to their respective email addresses registered in ehqaq, so kindly check your email, if you didn’t receive means you are not included in 1st batch.

After 14 days from a court ruling, they can receive another email from them, maybe asking to modify ehqaq to input the personal account number or they ask the claimants' account number in email (both ways.

Mr. Tagayan reiterated from his post that as per trustee chairman Mr. Shabani, the payment will be direct to the claimants, this is their stand/decision since 2021 up to their last conversation last three months ago.

DMW Warns Public for Fake Job Offer from Maritime Firm

 Officer in Charge Hans Leo Cacdac lead the DMW team in shutting down fake maritime consultancy that offers fake jobs. The advisory was released by the Department of Migrant Workers on 07 September 2023.

An applicant named, Ernesto stated that he was promised by RTM a job as Chief Cook onboard a container vessel in Dubai with a monthly salary of US$900, or the equivalent of P51,300. In exchange, Ernesto was asked to pay a total of P105,000 at RTM’s office representing alleged “consultancy” fees for finding him the overseas job.

Dino, meanwhile, applied for the position of Engine Cadet with a promised salary of US$350, or approximately P20,000, per month. He was asked by RTM to cough up P140,000 as consultation fee for the job placement.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) this morning closed down the offices of R. T. M. Maritime Consultancy Services Corp (RTM, for short) for alleged illegal recruitment activities and unauthorized collection of fees.

The closure operation was led by DMW Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac along with Undersecretary Bernard P. Olalia, head of the DMW’s Licensing and Adjudication Services cluster, Assistant Secretary Francis de Guzman, and Atty. Geraldine Mendez, Chief of the department’s Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB).

With the assistance of personnel from the  Parañaque City police and Barangay Sto. Niño officials, Cacdac padlocked RTM’s offices located at the 2nd floor of the J & P Building along Ninoy Aquino Avenue in Santo Nino, Paranaque City.

“We cannot allow these unlicensed agencies posing as ‘consultancy firms’ to continue offering supposedly lucrative job postings to our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and goading them to pay excessive amounts of money. This is criminal and unconscionable,” Cacdac said.

The closure comes in the wake of email complaints sent separately by “Ernesto” and “Dindo” (not their real names) to the DMW earlier this year.

Both Ernesto and Dino applied for their alleged jobs in the first quarter of 2023. After waiting several months for their deployment, they decided to file their complaints with the DMW.

The department conducted initial surveillance operations of RTM’s activities in March while a follow-up surveillance operation was undertaken in June to bolster the DMW’s case against RTM.

In summary, the DMW determined that RTM does not have a valid license  or accreditation from the department; it received and processed applications and referred these to its partner manning agency; and it collected “consultation” fees ranging from P105,000 to as much as P140,000 from their applicants who were promised fake jobs as seafarers in Dubai – this despite a no placement fee policy for seafarers.

Charges of illegal recruitment are being readied against the officers and personnel of RTM Maritime Consultancy Corp.

The DMW is also urging other victims of RTM Maritime Consultancy Corp to visit the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB) so they may be assisted in filing their complaints and cases against the illegal recruitment agency. DMW Warns OFW Against Online Love Scams

𝐃𝐌𝐖 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐬 the 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐯𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐬 with the latest victim, an OFW from Switzerland. We should be cautious with online transactions, be it related to business or love. According to GMA News, some photos of local Filipino Celebrities and Influencers are being used by scammers.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) issues a warning to the public to be cautious with their social media activities with the troubling rise of online romance swindling schemes specifically targeting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

The DMW issued the warning in the wake of the latest report of a Filipina OFW based in Switzerland who was victimized by her “rich foreigner boyfriend,” who extorted around CHF 40,000 (Swiss francs), or an estimated P2.5-million, from the victim’s hard-earned savings and personal loans.

“Kami po ay nakikiusap sa mga kababayan natin na huwag magpalinlang sa mga online romance o love scams. Huwag magpapadala sa matatamis na salita ng mga taong hindi ninyo nakita. Marami na po silang mga nabiktima mula sa iba’t-ibang bansa. Maging mapagmatyag po tayo at pahalagahan ang ating ipon na mula sa ating pawis at dugo,” said MWO Geneva in its report.

According to the report, the modus operandi of the scammer, pretending to be a ‘rich foreigner’ starts with earning the affection, trust, and ‘love’ of the victim. Once the victim’s confidence is gained, the scammer will ask for an amount of money with a promise of sending a bigger amount in return by courier. With claims of fake “customs-related issues” in getting his money to the unknowing victim, the ‘lover’ then convinces the OFW to send more money to ‘facilitate’ the alleged problem.

The DMW urges OFWs to be wary of these schemes. They should remain cautious and refrain from giving any amount of their hard-earned money and life savings to their supposed ‘online romantic partners.’

OFWs on-site who are victimized by the said modus operandi may seek proper assistance from the respective Migrant Workers Office and Philippine Embassy that has the jurisdiction over their jobsite.

DMW set to kick off its modernization program with the launch of the OFW Pass

Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople today said the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will kick-off its modernization program with the forthcoming launch of a digital app containing the OFW Pass, the digital alternative to the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC).

Ople said the DMW mobile app is now undergoing rigorous testing by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) prior to a formal launch. “We acknowledge the help and support being provided by the DICT to make sure that our mobile app will be secure,” the secretary said.

In her presentation to the media at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay Forum hosted by veteran journalist Marichu Villanueva of the Philippine Star, Ople said the idea for the app and OFW Pass came from the clamor of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for a more convenient alternative to the OEC which comes in paper form and with a P100 fee.

Based on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. the DMW has issued an order making the OFW Pass and DMW Mobile App free to all OFW users.

“President Marcos made it clear that the OFW Pass should be free in honor of the huge sacrifices being made and contributions of our modern-day heroes to the needs of their respective families and the Philippine economy as a whole,” Ople said.

She cited data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) that shows a 3.2% increase in dollar remittance flows from January to April 2023 ($10, 487, 040) to that of the same period last year ($10,166, 678).

“Foregoing the P100 per OEC charge was an easy decision to make given the enormous and consistent contributions of our OFWs to the country’s economic growth and the sustenance of their families,” Ople stressed.

The OFW Pass is set to be launched right after the DICT gives its green light to the DMW. The DMW mobile app will be available on Google Play and Apple Store. The DMW and the Bureau of Immigration signed a Memorandum of Agreement to make sure both agencies are in sync in terms of database management and other relevant processes.

“Our goal is to make the journey of our OFWs much easier. The OFW Pass, in comparison with the decades old OEC, is convenient, practical, and free of use. In the next phase, we hope to be able to add more features to our mobile app and integrate this with the e-Gov app of the DICT, but for now we prefer to focus on educating our OFWs on the features of the OFW Pass,” Ople said.

Saudi Claims Update June 2023

Calling all Saudi Claimants for unpaid salaries for 2015 to 2019 from Construction Companies on default or declared bankruptcy. Takamol Musaned Company went he on Monda, June 19 to talk about 1 million job opportunities they will offer for the Filipinos but have not give an update for the unpaid claims of the Filipinos. Our government should press hard on this issue, they should not allow the Saudi Government to bring 1 to 2 million Filipinos in Saudi Arabia as new hired and yet leave the 10,000 Saudi Claimants of unpaid salary empty handed. The Saudi Government looks aggressive on recruiting Filipino workes and yet doesn't give a clear status on when to released the payment to affected OFWs. When Secretay Ople visited Saudi Arabia on May 24, although they said that the money were already forwarded to Ministry of Finance, they refused to give a specific timeline on when and how they are going to give the payment and if it's through Government to Government payment which makes it more unfair to all the claimants who waited for ages already to get their hard eraned money.

Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople welcomes the delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Takamol Musaned Company headed by its Executive Vice President Fawzan AlMuhaidib.

The Takamol Musaned Company met with Secretary Ople and other senior officials of the DMW on Monday, 19 June 2023, to discuss strengthening their partnership and to explore opportunities for collaboration on the use of technology for ease of doing business to improve service delivery to OFWs and their families.

Takamol is a Saudi state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, that introduced the Musaned, an electronic platform that aims to provide a comprehensive system to integrate and organize the labor recruitment and employment process of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, Senator Raffy Tulfo expressed concern over the still unpaid back wages and separation pay of thousands of former Saudi Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who lost their jobs after their companies declared bankruptcy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tulfo, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Migrant Workers, filed Senate Resolution (SR) No. 505, seeking to look into the reported failure of former Saudi OFWs to register their claims for back pay despite earlier commitment made by the Saudi government to settle claims.

"There have been several reports of former Saudi-based OFWs claiming back wages and separation pay with utterly unsuccessful attempts to register their claims," his Resolution read.

Last Nov. 18, 2022, the Philippine government through the Department of Migrant Workers, announced that the Saudi Government has committed to settling the back wages and separation pay of around 10,000 OFWs whose salaries were unpaid when Saudi construction companies folded and declared bankruptcy a few years back.

These companies include Saudi OGer, MMG, the Bin Laden group, and other construction firms that have yet to pay back the Filipino workers.

Said announcement came after President Bongbong Marcos Jr. met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the APEC Summit in Bangkok where the latter agreed to shoulder the P1-billion wage claims of the OFWs.

According to OFW-Family Club President, Roy Señeres Jr., only a measly number of around 200 OFWs were able to register as required by the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia while the period of registration set by the Saudi Embassy was earlier set to end by January 31, 2023.

Reportedly, the process of registering claims was "tedious and chaotic," especially to some claimants who are digitally challenged and to those who have lost some pertinent documents required.

In filing the resolution, the Senator from Isabela and Davao said it is necessary to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation to determine the extent of the problem and propose measures to address the situation.

BDO says Your Password is about to Expire a Scam

I have received an e-mail from BDO Bank telling me that my password id about to expire. Firstly, I don't have a BDO account so how can I have a password?

The body of the email below says:

Dear Valued Costumer, Your Password is about to Expire. BDO Unibank Security will suspend your account in 2 days. After June 19, 2023, you won't be able to access the account or any of the content you added. To cancel the suspension of your account and retrieve any of the content or information you have added, go to BDO-Unibank and Update you're account. Thank you

 

But when I check the e-mail address of the sender that's when I confirmed it is a scam. 

The email address is "support@telositalia.it". 

Beware when you are opening an email from a Bank Instituotion that looks legit, the best thing you can do is to check the e-mail address of the sender.

My sister has a co-teacher who's husband work as an OFW and according to her, someone who pretends as an employee of the bank ask her for the OTP and the moment she gave the OTP, all the money from their bank account has gone.

We, the citizens should be vigilant and share this kind of modus to our family and friends when we are in doubt.

Change the full name of a user account

2. Click the lock  button, then enter an administrator name and password. 
3. From the list of users, Control-click or right-click the user that you want to rename. Choose Advanced Options from the shortcut menu.
