The UAE Ministry of Labour has declared that the Eid Al Fitr holiday for all private sector employees will begin on the first and second days of Shawwal, work will resume on the third day of Shawwal of the year 1435 AH.

the holidays will start from Sunday, July 27, 2014, until Thursday, July 31, 2014.

That is a five-day holiday break for the festival and if one includes the weekends at the start and end of those days, it adds up to nine days.

All Federal employees will return to work on Sunday, August 3,According to Emirates 24/7

When is Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha in UAE?

Eid al Fitr is an important celebration on the global calendar, celebrated around the world. The word literally means, festival of breaking of the fast and marks the end of the month of Ramadan each year. The festival ends the dawn to dusk fasting that is followed by all Muslims around the world during the month of Ramadan. The festival is accompanied by a number of events happening throughout Dubai. The Abu Dhabi Government has announced on its website a list of public holidays for 2014.
Federal ministries, public departments and institutions will be closed on the following holidays:

November 15, 2012 is National Holiday in UAE for the observance of Al Hijra- Islamic New Year.

The private sector will observe Thursday, 15 November 2012, as an official paid holiday to mark the new Hijri year 1434, according to a circular issued by Minister of Labour saqr Gobash.

Work will resume on Sunday, November 18, according to a circular issued Humaid Mohammad Al Quttami, Minister of Education and Chairman of FAHR according to the report from Emirates24/7.com
The Islamic New Year marks the migration of the Prophet Mohammad and his followers from Mecca to Medina.

The Islamic year lasts for about 354 days and consists of 12 months. Muharram is the first month and some Muslims mark the start of the Islamic year on the first day of Muharram. Many Muslims fast during daylight hours on the ninth and 10th or 10th and 11th days of the month to mark the Day of Ashura (Yaumu-l 'Ashurah). Eid Al Adha 2012 will start on October 25, Thursday and will end on October 28, Sunday for Government and Public Sectors while it last until September 27, Saturday only for Private Sectors.

Eid al-Adha,  "feast of sacrifice"), or Feast of the Sacrifice or Greater Eid, is an importantreligious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to honor the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a sheep to sacrifice instead.

In the Indian Sub continent, the festival is known as Bakr-Id because of the tradition of sacrificing a goat which is called "bakri" in Urdu.


The festival is also known as Id-ul-Zuha. The word "id" derived from the Arabic "iwd" means "festival" and "zuha" comes from "uzhaiyya" which translates to "sacrifice.

According to the report from Emirates 247.com, Humaid Mohamed Al Qutami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources, on Wednesday issued a circular announcing that the federal ministries and public offices will remain closed from October 25 (Thursday) to October 28 (Sunday) for Eid Al Adha holidays.

Eid-al-Adha holidays for the private sector will begin on Thursday, October 25, that falls on the Arafat Day and will end on Saturday, October 27, the second day of Eid.

Arab states announce Eid al-Fitr celebration to be marked Sunday in Saudi Arabia, the kingdom's religious authorities announced.

According to Al Arabiya News, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and the United Arab Emirates also announced the celebration to be marked on Sunday, following the sighting of the new moon that will mark the beginning of the lunar month of Shawal, which follows the fasting month of Ramadan in the Muslim hijri calendar.

Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm) and lasts for 3 days. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiáš­r means "breaking the fast". The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.
