President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. suspended classes in public schools at all levels and work in the government in Metro Manila and in the Province of Bulacan on August 25 to give way for the opening ceremonies of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

The memorandum circular no. 27 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on August 15 stated that the suspension of government work and classes in public schools on Aug. 25 is also part of the government’s commitment towards wider involvement and participation in sports promotion and development.

The President also emphasized the suspension of government work and classes in public schools is the government’s effort to provide full support and assistance to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in ensuring the safe, orderly, and successful opening ceremonies of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The President however clarified that government agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services “shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.”

The President said that the suspension of work for private companies and classes in private schools is left to the discretion of their respective heads. PND

As a PVL fan, who do you think will take home the Championship Trophy of the PVL 2023 Invitational Conference. Creamline Cool Smashers with their intact solid line-up and with the addition of bernadette Pons are expected to defend their title very well. Foreign guest teams from Japan and Australia will be on their way for the trophy. New Teams like Gerflor Defenders, Farm Fresh Foxies and Foton Tornadoees might stage an upset. Perennial Top 4 Finalist, Petro Gazz Angels, PLDT High Speed Hitters, Cignal HD Spikers and Cherry Tiggo will also be in contention with the Trophy. Jolina dela Cruz and Mars Alba's addition with F2 Cargo Movers will add spice on the tournament. Choco Mucho is also considere to be a theat with the addition of Sisi Rondina in their roster of Outside Hitter. Just like last year, the guest player will only be scheduled to play during the semi-finals matches. The volleyball community are expecting a beter covergae of the tournament from One Sports and One Sports plus. Hopefully all the games will have a live telecast for the viewers to enjoy.

The former UAAP Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player is the most recent Filipino athlete to switch nationalities, following the footsteps of US Open golf champion Yuka Saso last year and chess grandmaster Wesley So in 2014. Filipino volleyball player and middle blocker Jaja Santiago also applied for Japanese Citizenship for her dream to play in the Olympics.

Qatar FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Live Update

Qatar is becoming a sports hub in the region. After FIFA World Cup 2022, the Country is set to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027. Will Qatar build a state-of-the-art Basketball stadium just like they did in FIFA World Cup?

Qatar National basketball Team will automatically qualify in the event and it will be their second WC appearance since 2006. As we all know they hosted the FIFA World Cup last year..

The decision to award the hosting rights to Qatar was made by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Qatar was chosen over competing bids from several other countries, including the Philippines, Russia, and Turkey. The announcement comes just a few years after Qatar hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Philippine National Women's Volleyball Team will target a podium finish at the the32nd Cambodia SEA Games against Indonesia at 6:00 P.M. today live via One Sport Plus and delayed telecast at One Sports. Coach Jorge de Brito should allow Team Captain, Alyssa Valdez to play for today's game for the PNWVT's greater chance to take the Bronze Medal.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Men's Beach Volleyball squad composed of Ran Abdilla, Jaron Requinton, Jude Garcia, and James Buytrago will aim to take their third win today vs Vietnam! The game starts 10:40 AM. 

A gallant stand by our Olympian Irish Magno gives Team Philippines another silver medal finish in the Women’s 54kg match.

Alexi Cabayaran gave Team Philippines its first medal in Finswimming after securing the silver medal in the Women's 200m Bi Fins.

The latest medal standings of the 11 nations participating in the 32nd Cambodia SEA Games 2023 is available on this page.

Update: May 5, 2023:

Host Cambodia is currently leading the medal race with a total of 9 Medals, 5 of which are Gold and 4 Silver. The Philippines is in 2nd Place with a total of 7 medals, Thailand on third place with 3 medals and Laos with 1 Gold. Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam are yet to haul their first gold medal as of this posting.

Philippines Kaila Napolis struck the first gold medal for Team Philippines on Thursday, beating a highly-favored foe in Jessa Khan in front of a hometown crowd in women’s jiu-jitsu at the SEA Games 2023.

Meanwhile, Rose Jean Ramos won 3 silver medals (snatch, clean and jerk and total) in the Women’s 45kg class at the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jinju, South Korea.

Update May 6, 2023 at 11:50 P.M: Philippines is now at No. 4 while Cambodia is still leading the medal race with a total of 41 medals.

The Philippines has the most number of delegates aside from host Cambodia with 860 participants. Thailand with 846, Vietnam with 702, Malaysia with 677, Indonesia with 599, Laos with 576, Singapore with 558, Myanmar with 341, Timor Leste with 90 and Brunei with only 65 participants.

Sarah Geronimo will be performing at the Live Draw of FIBA Basketball World Cup on April 29, 2023. Ms. Sarah Geronimo Guidecelli only accepts a few events invitation after getting married to her husband Matteo. Main host of LoL (Lough out Loud), Billy Crawford will also be performing on the big event at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It is the first World Cup to be hosted in Indonesia and the second to be hosted in both the Philippines and Japan since they first hosted the tournament in 1978 and 2006, respectively. The tournament will also be the second straight to be held in Asia after China's hosting of the 2019 edition and the first time in tournament history that a host nation has not qualified.

Five venues from five host cities will host matches for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Three cities in the Greater Manila Area will host four Preliminary Round Groups, two Second Round Groups, and the Final tournament phase from the Quarterfinals onwards. On the other hand, Okinawa and Jakarta will each be host to two Preliminary Round Groups and one Second Round Group. The Philippines will host 16 teams while Japan and Indonesia will host 8 teams each.

It's Cool and Fresh to win on ice!

Congratulations Philippine Men's Ice Hockey Team for winning the GOLD medal at the 2023 IIHF World Championship Division IV in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia!

The Men's Ice Hockey Team went undefeated the entire tournament winning against Indonesia, host Mongolia, and Kuwait.

The national team beat IIHF World Championship Division hosts Mongolia with a score of 7-6 in overtime on Saturday at the Steppe Arena in the Mongolian capital according to pna.gov.ph report.

“Our warmest congratulations go out to the Philippine Men's Ice Hockey Team and Hockey Philippines for their outstanding performance in the International Ice Hockey Federation Divisional World Championship,” President Marcos said on his official Facebook page and Twitter account.

“This triumph is a testament to their skill and perseverance, and we are honored to celebrate their success!” he added.

In a separate post, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) also congratulated the national team for sweeping their way to the crown.

“Congratulations Philippines Men's Ice Hockey Team for winning the gold medal at the 2023 IIHF World Championship Division IV in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia!” the PSC said.

The Defending Champion, the Philippines will not be able to defend its title as they fall short in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Dubai International Basketball Championship. The Philippines Strong Group Team was Coached by Charles Tiu who is also the Head Coach of De La Salle College of Saint Benilde. 

All The games of the Philippines were jampacked by Filipino spectators in Dubai, U.A.E. Most of the team are composed of NCAA and UAAP players with some Naturalized Filipino ballers. According to the report from Spin.ph, the Philippine representative erased an early 14-point deficit but allowed the Lebanese powerhouse team to make a late run on the way to advancing to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Philippines will have a complete set of players this coming Final Window of the World Cup Qualifiers which will be held in the Philippine Arena from February 24 to 27 and will be bannered by Kai Sotto who announced signing with Japan B-League earlier. The Philippines will take on Jordan and Lebanon on the Final Window.

We will run a poll on who you think are the top 10 Best Players and humble players as well in Premiere's Volleyball League 2023. We Filipinos loved a player who is talented and yet humble on and off-court at the same time. We definitely don't like a swagger player who doesn't contribute much to their team. An unnecessary swag of local players even on reinforcement is not really 'Pinoy Most Like' attitude of a Filipina player.

And since PVL All- Filipino Conference 2023 is just around the corner which will commence on 4th February 2023, we might as well commend this lovable player in the PVL.
