6.2 magnitude earthquake hits Iran- May 11, 2013

A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 hit southern Iran early Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicenter of the quake was measured at 85 kilometers (52 miles) southeast of the southern town of Minab at 0208 GMT , the USGS said in a statement. It was at a depth of 36.44 km according to AFP report.

The earthquake was felt most on the shore of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic trade point for the international oil market.
