I wanted to have a playstation vita this year but it seems it's not possible until we went to Japan. Since according to the report it will be only available until the end of the year in Japan.
PlayStation chief Jack Tretton told the Web 2.0 summit this week the Vita will go on sale in the U.S, Canada, Latin America, and Europe on February 22, 2012, tech site CNET reported.
"(T)he release timeframe of the Vita misses the critical holiday season and confirms a previous report that the device wouldn't arrive until early 2012," CNET reported.
It said the Vita will be relatively inexpensive at $250 for the Wi-Fi version, and $300 for the Wi-Fi+3G (AT&T) variant.
The potentially powerful handheld boasts a 5-inch OLED touchscreen, quad-core processors, dual analog sticks, dual cameras and a rear touch panel.
But CNET said the Vita will have to overcome criticisms about its battery life, as well as go up against Nintendo, which has dominated portable gaming handheld sales for years.
Earlier, PC World reported the Vita, Sony's upcoming handheld gaming console, will make a Japan-only debut on December 17.
The PC World report said the Vita will debut with 26 launch titles, and will be available with and without 3G, with the 3G version running on NTT DoCoMo's network.
“This new device is packed with every possible function, and that’s why we confidently call it the ultimate entertainment system," it quoted Sony games unit head Hiroshi Kawano at a press conference.
