iGotYa iPhone Application for Stolen iPhone

We saw this great iPhone application from cellpig.com.

iGotYa is an amazing app for people who are prone to losing their phone and its a great after-the-fact app, for when your device has been lost or stolen.

iGotYa is a simple little app for managing GPS or WPS positions and areas of interest. Positions like where you left your car or where your friends house is etc. You can take geotagged photos and attach a description of the location. You don`t have to take a photo to save information about the position you are at if for instance you are saving battery power. With each position a map is displayed. You can also attach a trail to this map. So you can plot out a route if you want.

As reviewed by pigcell.com:

iGotYa takes a silent snapshot of the criminal who is attempting to use your iPhone, though the front facing camera, whenever the pass-code is entered incorrectly. After taking this picture, it acquires the location of your iPhone and forms a Google maps link, sending it and the picture to your email.

The app allows you to choose which capture method you would like to be notified with, either a picture, location, or both. I personally enable both, but sometimes I like to preserve my battery by disabling the location alert. Also, if you don’t have an iPhone 4, you don’t have a front facing camera, and this makes it hard to capture a picture of the thieves face.

iGotYa also offers what is called ‘secure mode,’ which allows limited access to your iPhone, after an invalid password has been entered. Secure mode will block access to your personal data (SMS, pictures, call history, contacts, etc), but will allow typical usage. This can be a great help in the case that you forget your own password.

Thieves are also prevented from turning off your iPhone, while it is locked, stopping them from force restarting it or making it enter DFU/Recovery mode.

At only around $7 US or Canadian, the app is well worth the price. If you’re not convinced, the app is available as a free trial, which allows full access and control of the app for ten days.
