Arab states announce Eid al-Fitr celebration to be marked Sunday in Saudi Arabia, the kingdom's religious authorities announced.
Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm) and lasts for 3 days. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiá¹r means "breaking the fast". The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.
According to Al Arabiya News, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and the United Arab Emirates also announced the celebration to be marked on Sunday, following the sighting of the new moon that will mark the beginning of the lunar month of Shawal, which follows the fasting month of Ramadan in the Muslim hijri calendar.
