It is also changing, as the population grows and ages, and technology reshapes economies and societies. By 2020, this planet will be home to 7.7 billion people. For the first time, almost two thirds of them will be members of the global middle classes. Fewer than 800 million of them will be living in poverty (on an income of less than $2 a day). People can now access the internet, via their smartphone, to search for almost everything known to humanity and then share it with anyone else.
People are using technology in new and exciting ways. For example, to teach students hundreds of miles away, unable to receive anything more than a basic education. New ideas open up new possibilities.
Expo 2020 Dubai is guided by the belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas combining in new ways, which explains our theme: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
For six months, Dubai’s Expo will play host to hundreds of countries, companies and people who bring insight into what is possible in the spheres of opportunity, mobility and sustainability. Millions of people from around the world will be able to share an experience that has one aim: to contribute to building a better future.
