What is the Digital Upgrade Programme?For a limited time, when you buy the disc or digital version of a participating PlayStation 3 game that will also be released for PlayStation 4, you can download the PS4 digital copy of the same game from PlayStation Store for a discounted price.
Is the official name the "Digital Upgrade Programme"?No. "Digital Upgrade Programme" is not the official name. There is no name for this programme. We are simply providing publishers the tools and opportunity to offer discounted upgrades via PlayStation Store.
What if I don't have a voucher?Only those with a voucher or token entitlement may have the benefit of a discounted price. For games purchased via PlayStation Store, the PS3 game will be bundled with a token entitlement that gives eligibility to purchase the PS4 version at a discounted price. If a disc version is purchased then this will include a voucher. Token entitlements or vouchers are not available separately.
What if I don't have the PS3 disc?For games purchased via PlayStation Store, the PS3 game will be bundled with a token entitlement that gives eligibility to purchase the PS4 version at a discounted price. The digital PS4 version in this case does not require a PS3 disc version to be inserted in the PS4 in order to play. However, if you originally purchased the Blu-ray Disc PS3 version and no longer have the disc, you will not be eligible for the discounted upgrade.
What happens if I lose my PS3 disc?If you originally purchased the Blu-ray Disc PS3 version and no longer have the disc, you will not be eligible for the discounted upgrade.
What happens if I remove the disc from the PS4?
For PS3 disc purchasers, the PS4 version will not run without the PS3 disc in the system.
Will I still be able to play on the PS3 version once the PS4 version has been activated?
Yes. The PS3 game will continue to function on PS3.
Is there a time limit to this offer?
Yes. The time limit will be notified for each participating game.
Does this programme apply to pre-orders?
Regardless of whether you have pre-ordered or not, once you have purchased a participating PS3 game, it will be bundled with a token entitlement that gives eligibility to purchase the PS4 version at a discounted price.
Will my game progress/data transfer to PS4?
This will vary depending on the game. It will be at the publisher's discretion.
Is the PS4 version of the game the same as the PS3 version of the game?
No, users will receive the full PS4 digital game with all PS4 features and functionality.
Does the PS4 game have a timed expiration once activated?
No. Offline gameplay will continue indefinitely, however availability of online features will follow participating publishers' normal practices.
Do users need a PS4 to redeem the voucher code?
No. Voucher codes can be redeemed on PS3, PlayStation Store or SEN.
Does redeeming the voucher code cost anything?
No. The redeeming of the voucher code only activates eligibility to purchase the PS4 version of the game at a discount. You will only have to pay when you actually purchase the PS4 game.
Does this work on all PS3 games?
No. However, all participating games will be labelled.
What games are eligible?
Currently Call of Duty: Ghosts by Activision, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag by Ubisoft, NBA 2K14 by 2K Sports, Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and Battlefield 4 by EA have been announced. Further titles will be announced shortly.
How much is the discount?
Each discount will vary and will be determined on a title by title basis.
Who determines the price?
As the retailer, all prices are determined by PlayStation Store.
