The Social Security System (SSS) launched its new office in Dubai in a simple ceremony at the Consulate General’s premises with no less than SSS President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Emilio S. de Quiros Jr. heading the opening last September 21.
In attendance were the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Consulate General in Dubai, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration Dubai, the Filipino Community Governing Council, representatives of various organizations, and members of the media.
In her welcome remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Grace Relucio-Princesa stressed the event’s importance as a start for Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to avail of SSS programs and services. She also encouraged those present to spread the good news so that the whole Filipino community in the UAE can begin securing their future.
De Quiros, who used to be Executive Vice President of Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and President of Ayala Life, expressed his happiness over the opening of an SSS office in Dubai where a lot of Filipinos work and live. He also informed the participants that the SSS has recently signed agreements with Denmark and Portugal that would allow Filipinos to receive their social security benefits once they are back in the Philippines.
Judy Frances A. See, Senior Vice President of the Account Management Group and Head of International Operations, provided updates on SSS programs and services. She said that the goal of SSS is to bring back the status of SSS funds to perpetuity which requires contribution rate of 14 percent per 2007 valuation.
During the open forum, those in attendance took the chance to ask questions and clarify issues pertaining to their contributions and benefits.
In his closing remarks, Vice Consul Edwin Mendoza extended the Consulate General’s appreciation for this SSS project. He also presented to de Quiros the book, “Father of Dubai–Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum,” as a token from the Consulate General.
