The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be the 17th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the tournament previously known as the FIBA World Championship.[1] To be hosted by Spain, it will be the last time the tournament will be held on the current four-year cycle. The next FIBA World Cup will be held five years later, in 2019, to reset the cycle on a different year than the FIFA World Cup.



This will be the first time the new expanded free throw lane, the restricted arc, and extended 3-point line (6.6-6.75 m) take effect in the tournament.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup, known from 1950 until 2010 as the FIBA World Championship, is the flagship event of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).









The first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in 2014 in Spain (view host cities).





The term 'World Cup' is known by people all around the world and resonates in different languages: Copa del Mundo, Coppa del Mondo, Coupe du Monde.
