Three of the victims were among those who where pushing the float while the fourth was a spectator. No details on the injured persons have been disclosed.
Citing a fire department official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Associated Press reports that the float caught fire shortly after the Sangue Jovem samba school ended its parade at dawn on Tuesday.
The float caught fire when it accidentally hit a power line, witnesses reportedly said.
The tragedy prompted city mayor Paulo Alexandre Barbosa to immediately suspend the event.
