Watch the announcement when China wins to host FIBA 2019 Basketball World Cup.

The FIBA Central Board composed of 21 members voted 14-7 in favor of China Friday, August 7 in Tokyo, Japan for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup hosting, according to a press release from FIBA.

It's heart-breaking though for Philippine Basketball fans as they have won the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup MVF (Most Valuable Fan) Best Country Award.

Fans took part in MVF Challenges and used a broad range of social actions (for example by associating their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts, using the hashtag #Spain2014...etc) to accumulate their MVF points.

“We would like to congratulate both national federations for their outstanding work and bids. This is what we wanted: to have national federations put together top quality bids to host our flagship event.

“We look forward to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will be the first of a new era with 140 teams competing during a 15-month qualification period to be among the 32 playing in China.”

Philippines vs Vietnam 28th SEA Games Volleyball Live and Replay on June 13, 2015.

The Philippines got its first taste of international competition in early May when it hosted the AVC women’s U-23 tournament, and in Romasanta’s eyes, the team did better than expected.

“We were bracketed with Kazakhstan and Iran and we were worried we would not win a game,” he recalls. “But they were able to beat Kazakhstan and Iran and won the first set against China.”

To some, winning a lone set might not be cause for celebration, but against the world champions, it’s kind of a big deal, especially when you consider that only two other countries have managed to pull off this feat.

“There are only three countries that have won a set against China, world champions that they are. Thailand, Korea and the Philippines. It got us the admiration of the other teams, including China.”

The Philippines eventually settled for seventh place, which isn’t too bad, and some players caught the eye of scouts from other countries.

Philippines vs Vietnam Live and Replay will be posted here once the event gets underway. Meanwhile, please watch Philippines vs China Quarterfinals - 2015 Asian U23 Women's Volleyball Championship.
