A tech site on Monday cited photos on a Chinese phone forum last July 27, indicating plastic packaging for a supposed "iPhone 5C."

"The latest is plastic packaging for an iPhone 5C, which appeared on the Chinese WeiPhone discussion forum. The 5C could be the rumored lower-cost, plastic-encased iPhone that could show up along with an updated iPhone 5, expected to be call the 5S," CNET reported.

CNET noted that while it is not clear what the "C" in "5C" stands for, the packaging could be similar to the plastic case of the iPod touch.

Citing various reports from police and social media, China’s Xinhua News Agency said Ma Ailun collapsed after using her iPhone 5 while it was being charged.

Ma allegedly electrocuted by an iPhone while recharging. The 23-year-old victim’s death sparked an investigation by Apple.

The cause of her death was electrocution, said authorities in the western Xinjiang region, but whether or not her smartphone was involved has yet to be verified.

In an official statement sent to media, Apple expressed sympathy to the victim’s family and said it will conduct an independent probe on the incident.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the Ma family. We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter,” Apple stated.

iPhone loses in trademark battle vs iFone

iPhone loses in trademark battle vs iFone after rendering their apology on Samsung earlier (read here). However, Apple is yet to release an official statement regarding the matter.

A court in Mexico City denied Apple’s petition to protect the iPhone brand and ruled that iFone, a Mexican software firm, had the rights to that name.

The lawyer for iFone, Eduardo Gallastegui in a statement said it was “the third time Apple lost” which “demonstrates the legal truth” that “iFone is within its full right to use its brand.”

Apple sued the Mexican company in 2009, demanding that it should stop using the name because phonetic similarities cause confusion among users.

Reports say that a local paper quoted Gallastegui as saying that Apple will have to compensate iFone for using the brand name iPhone.

The court, however, denied the petition after authorities found out that iFone registered its name in Mexico in 2003, four years before Apple introduced the iPhone to the Mexican market.

It's Almost Here- Apple Event on September 12 Latest Update

admin 21:44 Add Comment
Finally, iPhone 5 is almost here! Apple has invited members of the media to a September 12 event in San Francisco for what is expected to be the debut of a new-generation iPhone according to some online report.

Email invitations bore the cryptic message, "It's almost here," and a large number "12" casting a shadow that appeared to be the number five, suggesting that the event would spotlight the long-anticipated iPhone 5.

According to games.on.net,   The event is unlikely to be about a single product though, and speculation suggests there may be announcements regarding an update to the iPod nano, some changes to Apple TV, and the desktop version of iTunes getting an update as well. The word on the street seems to think that it is unlikely the iPad mini will be announced, with Apple more likely saving that bombshell for a separate event just before the holiday period.

Leaks and rumors portray the new iPhone as having a larger touch-screen than its predecessor and say that it will be available by the end of the month.
