YouTube announced its new steaming API for gaming. This API allows developers to add a live streaming option into their games or devices. Elgato is one of the first hardware companies to take advantage of the new API. Its Game Capture HD software can now be used to stream console games straight to YouTube without the need to purchase any additional equipment.
As of May 15, 2013, YouTube has announced that any YouTube channel with more than 1000 subscribers is eligible for live streaming. Look for Live Events in your channel settings, and click the Enable button to apply.
Elgato released
public beta software with the YouTube API integration for Windows 7 and Windows 8. A Mac version (which I need) is said to be in development. After downloading the software, you’ll need to log in with your YouTube credentials and have an account that’s set up for live streaming. Those who are partners with some kind of network on YouTube likely have this option available to them. Google
is still rolling this feature out, so it may take some time to reach you.
You can purchase the Elgato Game Capture HD for around $160 from various online retailers. Myself, I have purchase my El Gato Game Capture HD from Apple Store at around $190 direct from The Netherlands.
Notes:• If you'd like your voiceover to appear on the stream, be sure to enable Game Capture HD's Live Commentary.
• If you want to schedule a live stream, you'll need to go to your YouTube channel page, and schedule a live event. Afterwards, you will be able to stream to that event from the Game Capture HD software. As of May 14, this only works in the latest Windows beta - please re-download the beta software at
http://gamecapture.com/youtube and on Windows only. We are still working on adding support for scheduled live events in the Mac beta.
To use YouTube Streaming, you must have a YouTube account and a YouTube channel.
In order to use this Elgato Game Capture HD Public Beta, your YouTube channel needs to be enabled for Live Streaming. Not every YouTube account has such access at this time.
If your account is already enabled for Live Streaming, you’ll see a promotion when you log in and visit your YouTube channel page.
