As a PVL fan, who do you think will take home the Championship Trophy of the PVL 2023 Invitational Conference. Creamline Cool Smashers with their intact solid line-up and with the addition of bernadette Pons are expected to defend their title very well. Foreign guest teams from Japan and Australia will be on their way for the trophy. New Teams like Gerflor Defenders, Farm Fresh Foxies and Foton Tornadoees might stage an upset. Perennial Top 4 Finalist, Petro Gazz Angels, PLDT High Speed Hitters, Cignal HD Spikers and Cherry Tiggo will also be in contention with the Trophy. Jolina dela Cruz and Mars Alba's addition with F2 Cargo Movers will add spice on the tournament. Choco Mucho is also considere to be a theat with the addition of Sisi Rondina in their roster of Outside Hitter. Just like last year, the guest player will only be scheduled to play during the semi-finals matches. The volleyball community are expecting a beter covergae of the tournament from One Sports and One Sports plus. Hopefully all the games will have a live telecast for the viewers to enjoy.

The Philippine Women's volleyball team put up a gritty stand but finally fell to a more experienced Vietnamese squad, 16-25, 20-25, 23-25, to exit the 28th Singapore Southeast Asian Games women’s volleyball competitions at the OCBC Arena here on Saturday.
Egged on by an animated Filipino gallery, the popular Filipina volleybelles had their finest moment in the third set where they even led and 23-22 and looked poised to extend the match to a fourth one.
But the Vietnamese, showing the poise that earned them the silver medal at the 2014 Myanmar SEA Games, took the last three points, the last two blocking Jaja Santiago’s spikes, in advancing to the semifinals with their third straight win in Group B.

April Manganang of Indonesia sparks Gender Test Controversy
April Manganang indonesia Sports Volleyball

Indonesian Women's Volleyball player, April Manganang sparks contoversy after playing agains Philippines on Wednesday.
A gender row hit the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Tuesday after the Philippines demanded that organisers carry out tests on a women's volleyball player from Indonesia.
A 23-year old spiker from North Sulawesi, Manganang was given the green light to compete pending the result of her gender test, which became the subject of controversy after the Philippines filed a formal protest before SEA Games organizers.
In an online report written in Bahasa, it states that Manganang's parents, Zambrut Manganang and Suryati Lano Bori, were poor and she tried to escape poverty by playing basketball. Then, she shifted to volleyball for economic reasons.
"I play volleyball in village tournaments to bring money for my family," she said, adding that the first payment she got from playing in a village tournament was a pack of boiled noodles and eggs.
A team official confirmed reports that the Philippines had asked for a gender test on Aprilia Santini Manganang of Indonesia, 23, ahead of their game on Wednesday. Please read full story, HERE!
Meanwhile, the Philippine protest urging a gender test for Manganang has been denied by Singaporean Southeast Asian Games organizers, according to Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas, Inc. president Joey Romasanta.
“They (the organizers) told us there was not enough material time to conduct the gender test on the Indonesian,” said Romasanta on the sidelines of the PH-Indonesia women’s volleyball match at the OCBC Arena here on Wednesday
Romasanta added that he was informed by the SEAG Organizing Committee thatit was only following the certification given by the International Volleyball Federation, known by its French acronym FIVB, clearing Santini to compete in an earlier FIVB-sanctioned competition.
The volleyball head, who is also the Philippine Olympic Committee First Vice President, said that he did know the competition where the Indon had been clearance by the FIVB.
Romasanta said the alternative was to place the game against Indonesia under protest, but was prevailed upon here by a Filipino FIVB official, who requested not to be identified, not to pursue it because “the FIVB has already spoken on the matter.”
National women’s coach Roger Gorayeb had earlier requested the Philippine contingent file a protest against Manganang because of her masculine-looking appearance and physique.

Philippines vs Vietnam 28th SEA Games Volleyball Live and Replay on June 13, 2015.
The Philippines got its first taste of international competition in early May when it hosted the AVC women’s U-23 tournament, and in Romasanta’s eyes, the team did better than expected.
“We were bracketed with Kazakhstan and Iran and we were worried we would not win a game,” he recalls. “But they were able to beat Kazakhstan and Iran and won the first set against China.”
To some, winning a lone set might not be cause for celebration, but against the world champions, it’s kind of a big deal, especially when you consider that only two other countries have managed to pull off this feat.
“There are only three countries that have won a set against China, world champions that they are. Thailand, Korea and the Philippines. It got us the admiration of the other teams, including China.”
The Philippines eventually settled for seventh place, which isn’t too bad, and some players caught the eye of scouts from other countries.

Once again, the Philippines is the heavy favorite to bag the gold medal in men’s basketball at the Southeast Asian Games. And once again, a familiar face will lead the Filipino dribblers’ march to what would be a 17th gold in the event.
This will be the third straight SEA Games for Kiefer Ravena, and if the Gilas Cadets romp away with the gold in Singapore, as they are widely expected to, it would put the 21-year-old Ateneo guard in very rare company.
Since the birth of the SEA Games in 1977, only three Filipino basketball players have managed to win three SEA Games gold medals. That honor belongs to forward Elmer Reyes, who took home the gold in 1981, 1983, and 1985, forward Ruben De la Rosa, who won in 1995, 1999 and 2001, and big man Romel Adducul, who bagged golds in 1997, 1999 and 2001.
