Megaupload.com Shutdown by FBI

Megaupload.com, one of the world’s largest file-sharing sites, has been seized. Its founder and company executives were arrested and charged with violations of piracy laws.



Megaupload is considered a “cyberlocker” or an online file storage provider that allows uploading, hosting and downloading of video, image, audio, document and software files.



According to Techland at Time.com, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) “estimated that the vast majority of content being shared on Megaupload was in violation of copyright laws.”







The website now has a notification that says its service “can only be used to upload and retrieve files” that are “uploaded personally.”

Beware of Kinect Malware

A new malware created by a 15-year-old Indian researcher can turn Microsoft's Kinect game accessory into a spy camera that secretly takes and uploads photos.



The Hacker News reported the Kinect, which holds the world record for the fastest selling consumer electronics device, can be used for bad with the malware "gawde."



"The malware, code-named 'gawde' after its creators name, works on Windows 7 to secretly capture pictures of the victim/surroundings from a connected Kinect device and uploads them to a (Google) Picasa account," it said.



Information Sharing and Anaysis Center (ISAC) director Rajshekhar Murthy said there may be more Windows applications that will be developed for Kinect.



Murthy added the device is likely gain further immense popularity and acceptance in the coming years.



"And from a perpective of an attacker, such a popular device can be an exciting target for visual and audio intelligence," Murthy said.



The Hacker News said the Kinect malware "gawde" goes a step ahead and even uses voice recognition to execute a program based on keyword, without the knowledge of the victim.



It said the malware will be demonstrated at the upcoming MalCon 2011 in Mumbai, India.
